52 Pick-me-up: Sun / Miracle / Reward

•••
Ah, forgive me while I have a yellow meltdown.
[see more of this mess on The Glutton, where I'm still documenting my decluttering process]
It's the start of seven weeks of yellow tones here on 52 Pick-me-up.
The colors are named by Tori Hartman for her Chakra Wisdom Oracle. [links here]
The interpretations are my own.
Here's what I decided back in June:
Sun, Topaz, Sunflower, Lemonade, Canary, Bronze, Gold
This week our prompt is Sun Yellow. How is that different from Canary?
Here's what Tori says: Sun Yellow is the brightest and boldest. Canary Yellow is yellow in its purest form.

OK, so I still have four weeks to get something sewn up in my 90's yellow, black, and red plaids:
The item on top is a sweater that I'm going to turn into a skirt.
The other two are both woven yardage, the middle has spandex added.
That leaves me with the Sun Yellow jingle jangle skirt, which I still haven't decided what to do with.
Here it is, as a skirt, in days of yore:
With the famous Traveling Yellow Skirt!
"It makes a lovely bed"
"But I like the plaids more."
Yes, Mel's "Miracle" Traveling Freak Show Skirt is Sun Yellow.
Have you taken a spin with it?
Leave your link below, if you have.
If you haven't, contact Melanie. [The instructions are over on this page]. It is SO REWARDING!

52 Pick-me-up: Almost Marsala

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ GIFTED/
The 52 Pick-me-up Pantone Party continues.
I thought my square dance skirt was a good match for this year's color, Marsala.
But then I pulled an actual Marsala chip from the Pantone book at work.
Close, but not quite.

I'm working on a print collection utilizing Marsala (the color, not the wine).
It'll be posted over on my Pattern Recognition blog whenever I get it done.

It's not too late to join in the fun. Click here to see all the Pantone Colors of the Year, 2000-2015. Have you worn one of the 16 colors? Add your link here or there.

This is as close to Marsala as I could get from my closet:

Come link up your colorful self!
Whether it's something new, or something from your archives, the party will be much more fun with you here.
Speaking of parties, I'll be joining Patti's Visible Monday later today.

Cameron Silver on the Digital Catwalk

CREATED/ LINKS/

I'm participating in a Surface Design blog hop over on Pattern Recognition. Over 40 artists and designers created print collections under the theme Tropical Fusion. The art all utilizes Pantone's Radiant Orchid. If you like prints, get yourself on over there -- there is a wonderful array of styles to see. You just might find a pillow or phone case that you can't live without!

As part of my presentation, I put my print designs onto a sketch. Cameron Silver, the owner of Decades in LA hovered in the back of my brain as my muse as I was putting my collection together. And I just happened to have sketched him last May before the Otis Benefit Show.

Here's how he looked last May:
And here he is for Spring 2014 in my Tropical Preppy collection:

To see the prints life size, click on over to Pattern Recognition.

Ah, it's Saturday night. Severo is playing a gig at B.B. King's in Times Square. I'm home blogging. Wish I were there and I don't mind being right where I am.

ps: See more (very small) pix of Cameron here on Patrick McMullan's photography site.

52 Pick-me-up: Pantone Party

PURCHASED/ GIFTED/ LINKS/
It's Pantone Color of the Year (COTY) week here at SpyGirl HQ. That doesn't mean I'm asking you to dress only in this year's Radiant Orchid. Pantone has been decreeing the COTY since 2000, which means you have 15 colors to choose from:

Here is Radiant Orchid:

This color looks very familiar!

But do I have any of it to wear now? I don't think so.
Instead, Here I am in my new plaid shirt.

We'll pretend it is made up of 2007 Chile Pepper, 2008 Blue Iris, and 2013 Emerald.
Which COTY strikes your fancy? Do you have it in your closet?

I Love: Greens and Mustard

If you think I'm talking about food, well, that is entirely likely!
Beets, Shishito Peppers, + Kale from Sunday
It all started with this top made by Luv 'N' Stuff (Chicago):
I bought this plaid plush top at Sonny's, in South Pasadena [now Koi] in the early 90s.
A pullover, it was always a little too bulky, a little too warm.
I found it Sunday afternoon languishing on the floor of the wardrobe where I store my jackets.
I made a simple cut down center front and a world of new mixtures began!
I've worn it every day this week. Here are Tuesday and Monday:
Yesterday's uploads to my new Trendstartr account
So matchy matchy!
I coordinate with the kitchen floor!
Pondering the mustard and green, yellow and green while driving to work:
I end up behind trucks with these colors! And road signs! And painted road lane indicators!!!!!!
At work, I took a moment and mixed up some hues in Photoshop and got their nearest Pantone (PMS)#s
The green that I'm NOT caring for:
OMG Emerald, PMS 17-5641, Pantone's "Official Color" for Spring 2013

Too bluish for my taste.
Give me my spring green grass green PMS 363!

In a Brown Study - #OOTD

Brown, pink and yellow. It's such a strange combination of colors (for me).
I'm working on a 30x30 type challenge. I decided to try to wear summer-appropriate garments that have been either in the back of the closet or newly added to my collection to see what combinations I can concoct. This Shabby Apple cotton pencil skirt I got last March at the TxSC Lulu's swap from Shasie of Live Life In Style. The cotton is "sticky" so it doesn't "play nice" with tights. That makes it perfect for summer, if I can find things to go with it!
I've been very happy in today's combo. PLUS, I can finally close the zipper and not have the skirt float up over my ribcage.

I chipped out the colors of the print:
It reminded of this piece of art I did in the 70s:

Maybe I should print this on fabric and wear them together?
