Make It Yourself March: Refashioning

Mending Mountain or Refashioning Range?
Boxes full of garments I refuse to give up on and plan to refashion.

I have them categorized:
Sweaters
Tops
Skirts (big box)
Pants
Yardage

Skirts are a big issue for me -- I collected a lot of them from Cottage Arts, the most wonderful shop in Artesia (aka Little India). It has since closed (wah!). I don't wear them that often now -- the maxi hippie skirts are too long for the day job (I trip on the hem when ascending the stairs) and they don't work that well with my body shape. (My waist is currently convex and I have no bosom to stop them from riding up my torso).
I want to convert them into pinafores and dresses.

Out of this assortment, I managed to hem this Shabby Apple skirt:

Shortening a hem is not super aggressive refashioning, I guess it's more an alteration.
I'm hoping it'll make the skirt more appealing to me.

More Pattern Play - #OOTD

I took this Instagram yesterday, to see if these new acquisitions from Larry matched my Shabby Apple skirt:

They do! Best combo is the mod paisley (center top). Alas, that is a smock with a too small bodice, so sewing would be required (or I wear it as a long vest? Didn't think of that...).

Ah, look what wandered in from the clean laundry -- the orange stripe shirt from Friday! Match!
Right now, it's too warm in the office to wear the shirt (and I need to wash it) so I stuck the chiffon scarf in my bag:

Match again!
One thing, I need to shorten the hem on the skirt to above knee length. Too frumpy!

In a Brown Study - #OOTD

Brown, pink and yellow. It's such a strange combination of colors (for me).
I'm working on a 30x30 type challenge. I decided to try to wear summer-appropriate garments that have been either in the back of the closet or newly added to my collection to see what combinations I can concoct. This Shabby Apple cotton pencil skirt I got last March at the TxSC Lulu's swap from Shasie of Live Life In Style. The cotton is "sticky" so it doesn't "play nice" with tights. That makes it perfect for summer, if I can find things to go with it!
I've been very happy in today's combo. PLUS, I can finally close the zipper and not have the skirt float up over my ribcage.

I chipped out the colors of the print:

It reminded of this piece of art I did in the 70s:

Maybe I should print this on fabric and wear them together?

He said I looked normal today...

That's one of the reasons I love him!
I'm back in LA after 3 fun-filled days in Austin, TX. I went to attend the Texas Style Council [TxSC] social media conference. My head is swimming with all the stuff I learned, the new friends I made, and I'm bursting with ideas.

Meanwhile, I've gotta go to work...
