52 Pick-me-up: Purple Royale

CREATED/ PURCHASED/ GIFTED/ LINKS/
This week on 52 Pick-me-up, we don Purple, the color of royalty.
Back in 1500 BC [says Wikipedia], purple dye was derived from tiny snails. It took a lot of effort, so only the big-wigs were allowed to wear it. Good thing they got rid of that rule!
You may address me as Queen Anne
I'll admit, I have a purple past.

Here I am back in 1993, my last salaried day at Mattel (I later freelanced), in my purple Leon Max suit, yellow tights, and purple Mary Janes. Hoi and Anita made a mini-me Barbie wearing the same outfit.
Then, farther back in time, there's the purple maxi (details here):
sorry such a wretched photo
wish I had a larger scan

Have any purple in your closet that you might wear to my party?
Please link up your look!

A Date With the Bangles

Our good friend Derrick Anderson [WARNING this link has sound] plays bass with The Bangles. They headlined a free show in Pershing Square, in downtown LA on Saturday night. Time for another date night out on the town!
Derrick put us on "the list" so we were able to sit in VIP chairs.
We sat in the second row!

We then all went over to see Derrick's room that he was given at the Biltmore.
Patria styled an impromptu photo session with Derrick and his bass
The next album cover?
Thanks, Derrick, for a fun, fun night!

Neon Preppy -- #OOTD

OK, OK, it's neon tropical. This loud shirt from the Larry archives makes it's sartorial debut today.
Hot pink and green always remind me of Lilly Pulitzer and Lilly Pulitzer reminds me of my preppy school-mates (I went to Emma Willard, a girls' prep school).
Oh! I just remembered that I also grabbed a Lilly from Larry with the intention of selling it!
Here it is:
Yep, monkeys are in those coconut palm trees
It will appear on Threadflip soon, after I press it and take enticing photos. It's tagged a size 6.

Meanwhile, I'm certainly visible today...
Visible Monday over here, do click and partake!

Regrets, I've Had a Few...

These bracelets no longer fit over my wrist.
I shot a bunch of enticing photos for a Threadflip listing.
As I was processing the photos, I started getting a sad feeling.
I remember when I first acquired them in the 80s, from Jone Pasha in Providence, RI [closed].
I looked at the stack of the ones that still fit me. Something was missing.
They just didn't look right.
The green! There is no green in the ones that fit!
So, no, I cannot split them up. My attempt at decluttering failed.
I don't regret it.
reunited
These are made of plastic cord wrapped around grass. From my brief internet searching, I believe they originate from Burkina Faso and the cording is recycled from prayer mats. [See this site]. Jone got them via Craft Caravan in NYC [closed]. They sold for $3, if I remember correctly.

Fashion Challenge: Neon Flashback

I dug a little deeper into the shopping cart of treasure and found a bunch of neon printed items from the 70s. Here is a paisley shell with an unfortunate front zipper (think I'll replace it with an exposed metal zip). I paired it with my yellow 80s bubble nylon/spandex tube dress.
nifty pockets!

Neon paisley, right on!
A loud floral Hawaiian style shirt.

I was curious to see how it went with the shift from Monday...
No doubt you'll see me in this soon!
Something about this appeals -- must be the color combo.
This fabric looks downright sedate after all those others.
The yellow, peach and orange acidly pop against the beige ground --
didn't come through in the photo.
It's a lot of yardage in a giant muumuu... I foresee another new skirt!
Today is the final day of the Fashion Challenge week.
Which look do you think I should submit to Keely for her recap?
