52 Pick-me-up: Queen Anne's Lace

PURCHASED/
Robert Wallace Queen Anne's Lace [source
It's a flower power week again, Queen Anne's Lace is our muse.
Do I own anything white and lacy? No.

I rummaged around and put this disheveled mess together.
Sorry, too lazy to press out the wrinkles.
It will not be leaving the back yard!
"Why," you ask?
The huipil (tunic) was pulled from my pile of "art studio" garments.
That's the place where the stained or holey-yet-still-comfortable clothes go.
This is so frayed at the neck and shoulders, I'm not even sure some boro style patching would remedy it. Maybe I'll cut it down and make a new neckline. The fabric has a nice open mesh weave and it's super soft. I got both the huipil and the rebozo (scarf) in Oaxaca in 1982.
Then I'm wearing another pair of shoes pulled from storage in the garage. I had quite the cache in there!
These were already uncomfortable in the short walk from the dining room to outside.
I think these will make a trek to my Poshmark Closet.

Anything in your closet white and lacy? Link and tell!

Oaxaca.
Wouldn't that be a cool place to visit?
Not on a road trip with SpyGirl, mind you.
She would be a terror on the Mexican highways.

When Amaryllis Met TARDIS

PURCHASED/ GIFTED/
What happened when I was thinking of the red and white Amaryllis
while also thinking about Maricel's My Closet Catalogue TARDIS Tuesday?
This:
I fear the spandex is dying in the skirt. Tragic.
It's tubular bubble knit nylon/spandex yardage that I bought in the 80s.
I had located a wholesaler for it then, not sure if it's still being manufactured.

52 Pick-me-up: Go Geometrical

PURCHASED/ GIFTED/LINKS/
Oops, running late! I'm in the midst of packing for my big road trip -- I leave in less than 24 hours!!!!

This week on 52 Pick-me-up, the challenge is Geometrics.
Think "tribal" or folkloric prints, graphics on tees, triangular pendants, cut gemstones, etc.
If you're really thrown for a loop (harhar), dots, stripes and plaids count too.

I'm wearing one of my favorite driving garments, the Mexican huipil. Made from six panels (rectangles!) of handwoven cotton, it's super comfortable. If it's cold, I add pants, a long sleeve tee, and a warm shawl. I got the it at The Folk Tree in Pasadena. The cotton rebozo (shawl) was found at the mercado in central Oxaca in 1982.
What? More than 30 years ago???

Time to add your geometrical get-ups. Please link and tell!

52 Pick-me-up: White It Out

PURCHASED/ LINKS/
We're still having a lot of heat here in Los Angeles, and the above huipil is the perfect garment for staying cool and comfortable. It's the closest that my closet gets to white.
This week, share your looks that feature something white!

I'm Inside the Box - #OOTD

I'm all in favor of garments made from rectangles. They are very, um, ROOMY! Easy to sew too.
This one is from Mexico so it's called a huipil. I wore it today because the forecast said 86º weather. I was also quite pleased to find another garment that "goes" with my brown/mustard/teal striped scarf.

I'm working on tribal themed prints at work, so I tried shooting a closeup of the pattern on the chest.
Even with the "flip view" feature on my new iPhone, it was really difficult to get a good shot. OK for the blog, not good enough for pattern pirating. I'll have to bring it in tomorrow and scan it.

It's still Monday and you know what that means... The Visibles!
Go look!

5-9 alligator pumps

text:
all these clothes are too
small for me, but not for
SpyGirl!
silk charmeuse blouse from ideeli sale
vintage mexican handpainted circle skirt
(the radiating stripes help make the waist look smaller)
vintage alligator pumps

I created this post for a "Shoe of the Week" event hosted by Anja.
The theme for this week is Pumps.
I don't own that many pumps because I don't own many shoes with heels any more. These shoes were always kind of small, but yesterday I felt like one of the ugly sisters from Cinderella trying to squeeze my feet into them! I originally got them when I lived in Providence RI, at Roxy Deluxe on Thayer St in 79 or 80. I've held on to them because they are so beautiful.

toe cleavage!
they give a lovely line to the leg
I love the label on the skirt
