10 on the 10th: Would You Rather...

10 on the 10th is a fun monthly thing instigated by Marsha In the Middle.
This month it's ten eleven "Would you rather" questions

1. Would you rather eat deep fried Twinkies or butter?
My question is, is it possible to deep fry butter?
I asked ChatGPT:

Yes — but you can’t just toss a stick of butter into hot oil unless you want a greasy fireworks show.

People do deep fry butter (famously at state fairs), but they do it by:

  1. Freezing the butter first – usually cut into small chunks or rolled into balls.

  2. Coating it very well – dipped in batter or wrapped in dough/breadcrumbs so the hot oil doesn’t melt it instantly.

  3. Frying quickly – just long enough to crisp the outside before the inside turns molten.

The result is basically a warm, melty butter center inside a crunchy shell.

And here's a recipe!
You're welcome.

2. Would you rather eat a hot dog cooked or uncooked?
Hot dogs were one of my specialties when I babysat my siblings.
Even I would not stoop to serving hot dogs raw, no matter how much the sibs annoyed me.
I would rather not eat a hot dog at all.

3. Would you rather dig for gold or dig for gemstones?
I'll go digging for random facts any time!

4. Would you rather plant your feet in the sand or in the snow?
Sand!

5. Would you rather read a book with no chapters delineated or a book with no chapters at all?
What's the difference? I don't care, as long as it's well written.

6. Would you rather wear flip flops with tights or high heels with tube socks?
The toe thong on flip flops bothers me, I'll go with the heels.

7. Would you rather wear the twins Polly and Esther or their evil cousin, Latex, for a posh evening of your choice?
If you squeezed me into Latex, I'd look like Divine (Pink Flamingos), but without boobs.
Modern polyester is almost tolerable.

8. Would you rather watch a really bad movie with your bestie or a really good movie by yourself?
I'm all for streaming solo. I can watch whatever I want with no judgement.

9. Would you rather color in the lines or outside?

10. Would you rather drink warm root beer or cold “hot” chocolate?
Cold hot chocolate is the same as chocolate milk, right?

Bonus: Would you rather have taco chips or celery string stuck in your teeth?
Since I despise celery, I'll go with chips, despite the pain factor. Yes, been there, done that.

52 Pick-me-up: Dress Like a Libation

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ LINKS/
Here is this week's 52 Pick-me-up directive: Dress like your favorite cocktail.

Can you guess mine?
Hint:
photo by Sarah of Call Me Fudge
I'm a (virgin) Tequila Sunrise!
This was my drink of choice when I was going out to see LA pop shows in the 90s.
That is, if I bothered to pay for a beverage. Usually I didn't drink anything, so that I could avoid nasty rest rooms.

Here's Call Me Fudge's Tequila Sunrise recipe:

TEQUILA SUNRISE
(makes 1 drink)

2 oz. tequila
4 oz. orange juice
3/4 oz. grenadine

1.  Fill a high ball glass with ice.  Pour in tequila and orange juice.

2.  Slowly pour in grenadine and allow it to separate and settle at the bottom.

3.  Stir before sipping!

I found Sarah's site through a Google Image search. What a fun blog!

OK, put down that drink, link, and tell!

Austin Advent -- Threadgill's

Hungry yet? In the mood for some Southern comfort food? Go to Threadgill's!
301 West Riverside Dr, Austin, 78704, 512-472-9304

corn muffins
I ate: grilled tilapia, cheesy grits, stewed okra
he ate the beige dinner:
chicken fried steak with gravy, cheesy grits, butter beans
We are especially fond of the cheesy grits, as you can see - we both order it for one of our sides so that we don't have to share.
You CAN cook the grits at home -- I found the recipe in Blue Plate Specials & Blue Ribbon Chefs, by Jane and Michael Stern. There is also an official Threadgill's Cookbook [looks like both are out of print].
Here is a scan of the recipe:

Friend Friday: Summer Greens

Friend Friday. This is an opportunity for fashion and beauty bloggers to share their thoughts on a specific topic and read what others have to say on it. This week's subject is "share the recipe to your favorite seasonal dish.. the one you love to
make and love to eat this time of the year."

Are you ready for...
the awesome sandwich
one slice toasted whole wheat sour dough (I use Trader Joe's) cut in half

on left side:
goat cheese
slice of onion
grilled NM pepper (how to roast chiles on a grill) skin removed
cherry tomatoes

on right side:
pesto
garden greens (mustard, mizuna + cilantro)

I've been packing this sandwich for lunch at work for the past couple of weeks. YUM!

It's still too early for garden tomatoes, but my greens are at the perfect young and tender baby stage:

I have a whole other blog devoted to food and travel adventures. (In fact I have 6 blogs going right now! You can see the entire listing here on my website.)

And since this is my FASHION blog, here is SpyGirl with an Awesome Greens print:
I created the print by scanning some greens and then putting them in repeat
