52 Pick-me-up: Forget-me-not

PURCHASED/ CREATED/
mako "forget-me-nots" on Flickr
Dainty forget-me-not flowers: blue and yellow or purple and yellow or pink and yellow or white and yellow -- this week's 52 Pick-me-up inspiration. Or take the concept "forget me not" and go with that.
I was wracking my brain over the blue/yellow thing until my eyes landed on my OP tee that I got at Ross in Mesa, AZ in 2000.
Yes!

I'm reposting a section of my "About" page that features said tee:

I started SpyGirl as an art project in fake journaling in 2010.

Here's the story about how I found her.
I now have fully embraced and joined the world of Fashion blogging.
SpyGirl is my live Fashion Art performance piece, broadcasted via this blog.

I post outfit photos:
"Hello from the side of my house in western Los Angeles!"
and sketches:
Here I am in the same outfit but looking like a supermodel

Have fun with this one -- I've had an exhausting week, how about you?
If all else fails, link any old post! Forget ye not!

52 Pick-me-up: Iris

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ GIFTED/
This week we celebrate the Iris.
Iris Petals by Len Burgess
Iris 'Constant Companion' October 18th, closeup by Bob Gutowski
The iris comes in a wide range of colors, but I was inspired by the purple ones.
Both of my ensembles feature the radiant purple scarf that Bella gave me last May.
Did you know that the heraldic fleur de lis motif is based on both the lily and the iris? Now you do!

I'll be linking up with Sacramento and Rosie's Share-In-Style on Monday.

You, on the other hand, will hopefully link here!

52 Pick-me-up: Magnolia

GIFTED/
A flower-themed week again! This time, the Magnolia.

Magnolias can be found in a range of colors, pinks through whites:

Our street has white ones like this:

Instead of wearing something pink and white, I'm going with some Magnolia branding!

THIS Magnolia!
Yes, I sketched a Magnolia cupcake on a box lid!
This is the same Magnolia made famous in Sex and the City.
The vanilla/vanilla are my favorites!
Mmmmmm. Now I crave one.
Severo gave me all these garments. I'm wearing the tee back-to-front so you can see the Magnolia in the graphic.
Hey! It's a Visible week! I'll be there, later today.

Feeling flowery? Link and tell!

When Amaryllis Met TARDIS

PURCHASED/ GIFTED/
What happened when I was thinking of the red and white Amaryllis
while also thinking about Maricel's My Closet Catalogue TARDIS Tuesday?
This:
I fear the spandex is dying in the skirt. Tragic.
It's tubular bubble knit nylon/spandex yardage that I bought in the 80s.
I had located a wholesaler for it then, not sure if it's still being manufactured.

52 Pick-me-up: Amaryllis

PURCHASED/ GIFTED/
It's a flower week again on 53 Pick-me-up. The Amaryllis is a lily-like bulb that comes in many colors.

I'm using red, burgundy, and pink to inspire today's look.
Yeah, stripes still. I like stripes.

I'm linking up with Patti's Visible Monday later today.

Which Amaryllis color will you link?

52 Pick-me-up: Floral Bouquet

LINKS/
Welcome to the forth week of 52 Pick-me-up!
This week's theme is: Floral bouquet: mix your florals with…

I had grand plans for a post all about floral mixing. Maybe on Sunday when I get home from art camp, because I'm too tired to get it together! And I didn't bring any floral garments with me [oops].
How about if I give you some photos of real flowers that I pulled from my iPhone?
I'd love to see what sort of floral combos you can orchestrate! Please share below.

A Day with the Dahlias at the Getty

Last Thursday, Deborah and I made a trek up to the Getty. It's in one of the best locations in LA and I always get rejuvenated after a visit. This time, we actually made it inside a building and looked at art! (I don't want to admit how rarely that happens -- we usually get distracted by the garden).
Our first stop is usually for food. We opted for upscale and went to the restaurant (vs the cafe).
Stone fruit salad with prosciutto, blue cheese, cucumber, baby lettuces.
Bouillabaisse
Next we saw the exhibition "Gustav Klimt: The Magic of Line"
If you get a chance, go see it! It's a rare look at Klimt's drawings, ranging from realistic early work to later expressive abstracted pieces. His mastery of line is breathtaking.

And then we strolled in the garden.
Much to our surprise, dahlias were blooming. We've never seen dahlias there before! They came in every color.
Delicious food, inspiring art, beautiful flowers; all with a best friend. A five star day.

FTF: Spring

Spring for me:
The scent of Night Jasmine wafting in the evening breeze
Daylight Savings starts
Wildflowers blooming
The California Poppy is one of my favorites. They always bring a smile to my face when I see them. Ah, that orange color!
Deborah, David and I took a pilgrimage to the CA Poppy Reserve in northern LA County on Wednesday. None of us had ever been (shame on us!). What a magical place.

I wore poppy colors
sage tee from boyfriend, skirt from cottage art, chinese plastic sandals
me, Deborah
many more poppy reserve pix on my flickr
