My Insane Week, In Instagrams

I am still recovering from a very intense week of activities and deadlines:
1) Art show mounting, opening and reception
2) Sketchbook due for ArtHouse
3) Lucky FABB Conference
Any one of the above is major. All three simultaneously? YIKES!

Here is an overview from my Tumblr archives (a great way to get a quick read on one's life-in-instagram, btw, if you happen have a Tumblr and tick "on" to the Tumblr option in Instagram [IG] and don't do much else on Tumblr... and... did I lose you there?)
Some pix are out of order, some loaded in may... ah, internet!
Sunday, April 22:
To Do list, Sunday morning
Hanging art show
Monday ~ Wednesday: money job
Mr Lou sums it up
Thursday: worked all day on portraits of fashion bloggers for Threads and Surfaces sketchbook
Linework in Illustrator for Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely
In the evening, I let myself out for fresh air and watched a beautiful sunset.
Friday: portraits, break, portraits, sewing
At 8am, I removed 7 pages from the book
because I knew there was no way I could get them finished in time.
That's Kiah's [of From the "REZ" To the "CITY"] page, pre bling.
At the bottom, you can see my chart of steps, I kept on track with it.
9:30am Qi Gong break in Clover Park to fortify myself for the day
Another ArtHouse project came in, I ignored it
(and missed the deadline)
Very apt quote, however!
Diya's [of In Her Stilettos] pages printed, pre bling
I took a break from the computer and sewed my outfit for the reception.
I worked under a stern taskmaster.
Saturday: prep for reception, errands, teaching, reception, collapse
Meyer lemons and mint from the garden for the reception spa water
Picked up my MOO business cards at the PO en route to class
(yes, had to teach, along with everything else)
Here's a snap of my blog post about my reception look.
No instagrams from reception (distracted)
Sunday: work on sketchbook, blogger brunch, shopping, portraits, party, portraits
Decided I wanted a metallic cover on the book.
I'd found some silver spray paint in Severo's stash...
did NOT find a flat head screwdriver to remove the cap.
It took a lot longer than expected to get to this point where paint emerged
At noon, there was a Lucky FABB kick-off brunch
(again distracted/ no coverage = no IGs)
When I was walking back to my car,
I thought the above was a cute purple maxi dress hung out for a yard sale...
that's when I realized my blogger immersion was complete - it's ice plant!
There was a FABB shopping safari on Abbot Kinney, which I opted out of...
I DID go over there, however...
I'd gotten the brilliant notion my Monday conference outfit needed silver clogs to complete the look.
But Zingara's silver clogs were "try on for size for ordering" only. Nooooo!
In the end, I worked my self into an acquisitional frenzy and got these floral sandals
Rocquelle's pages finished at 4pm
List with more checkmarks -- progress!
By 5pm, I'd finished the flat coloring for La Dama [of Vintage Passiones Like Mine]
Yes, I was allowed to go to the FABB cocktail party on Melrose
Shot an IG at the party, used the hashtag, and my shot showed up in the LuckyMag.com feed!
Then home and back to work...
Monday: portraits, PO, conference, collapse
La Dama's pages done by 1am
Erin's [of Design for Mankind] pages done by 2am!!!!
SKETCHBOOK DONE!
Here's the sketchbook joining the mail stream at the PO @ 7:30 am
Deadline met!
On the the conference!
My bracelets, badge, and card holder thing
Bloggers!
I'd sketch, then shoot IGs of the sketches
This one is of Zac Posen and Brandon Holley
For lasting all the way to the end of this post,
I present you with a beautiful cake!
This was in the LeSportsac booth
It was created by Vanilla Bake Shop in Santa Monica

SpyGirl Status Report

Hello, all my internet friends! I have several deadlines looming large...

An art exhibition that gets hung 4/22, opens 4/24, reception 4/28.
If you live in the Los Angeles area, the details are here on facebook
and here: annembray.com
I am working some of the art into repeat so that I can offer voile scarves in the prints... nothing completed on that yet... eeek! I promise myself to at least have the one above available. I want to wear it to the FABB West conference on 4/30! You'll be the first to get the shopping link when it happens.

The Threads and Surfaces Fashion Icon sketchbook is due to ArtHouse in Brooklyn on 4/30. Must get back to doing those portraits, I have 12 to finish. If I do one a day...
I'll be posting those here as I complete them.

TAXES!!!!!!

The fake wedding journal is on hiatus at present >sad face<.

Any OOTD posts will most likely go on Facebook for now so please go like SpyGirl to see what crazy combos I concoct next.

There are lots of things I want to write about but I must concentrate on the top four items above first. For instance, I've gone undercover on Pose just to see what happens. I'm also monitoring Pinterest with a high degree of paranoia.
SpyGirl is very busy -- "on the QT and very hush hush."

Later, my dears!

Fashion Icon Portraits - The Process

I'm using my self-portrait as the sample so no one will feel dissed.

My goal for March 2013 - at least 18 glitter encrusted framed portraits.
Here's my early mock-up, sans glitter + bling:
What is going in the Threads and Surfaces Sketchbook (due 4/30 - EEEEEK!)

How I do these for the sketchbook:

1) I find a photo that inspires me
2) Using Adobe Illustrator and a Wacom tablet, I trace over the photos with black linework
3) I add color and shading in Photoshop
4) I digitally composite a background - in this case, a close-up of my scarf
5) I generate a QR code of blog for verso page and use same background
6) Print out, Tear edges with a deckle-edge ruler, Paste with glue stick
7) Add metallic marker (no glitter allowed in Sketchbook) - see at top

Still deciding on process for the framed portraits.
Must get sketchbook done first - deadline MUCH closer!

Note: not sure if I'll ever get the framed versions done.
Exhibiting something totally  different in April 2013 -- roadscapes.

Threads and Surfaces: Laura from Wrinkle in Time Vintage

I first met Laura through the IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) community -- we joined at the same time last year. Wrinkle in Time Vintage is her blog, where she posts fun photos in which she cavorts in cute outfits in the great outdoors of the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I want to go visit her, it looks so amazing there! [We share the same last name but are unrelated].

I drew her portrait from a photoshoot that I still obsessed with. Something about the way the breeze lifts the baby blue chiffon skirt... ah, divine!

Threads and Surfaces: Heather from The Style Confessions™

Finally! Another Fashion Icon is done for the Threads and Surfaces sketchbook.

Heather is my fashion blogger muse. I have written about her before. She HAD to be on the next spread of pages and I felt very pressured to do a good sketch. You see, she is a GREAT fashion illustrator, so I needed to do my best.
This pose is derived from this photo on her blog. I love that whole shoot -- it is so moody! Heather's husband Hugo is her photographer and does a fantastic job. Go check it out.

The art exhibition that I'm supposed to be concurrently working on with these same illustrations has now changed themes to my old abstract pattern work. I was stressing out (still nothing is finished and the show hangs in exactly 61 days) and I didn't want to have to rush through the pieces to get them completed in time. I want to have fun with them! So, the Fashion Icon art exhibition will now happen in Spring 2013 at the same time as LA Fashion Week. We'll have a fun private fashionista party at TAG Gallery in Santa Monica! [To get on the list, leave a comment below or subscribe to my newsletter and tick the fashion option].
