52 Pick-me-up: Pattern Max

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ CREATED/ GIFTED/
Oh thank you IRS for causing a delayed posting for this week's challenge. I managed to schedule my favorite theme -- Pattern Maxing -- in my least favorite week -- Tax Deadline. I'm back dating this and we'll all pretend that today is Sunday. If only!

Since I'm bombarding you daily with all of the fake journaling of Enid, I'm compiling the four outfits that I wore to work last week. I was inspired to new heights of pattern mixing [or maxing, as I like to say] by the Create 28 Lovely Spring Looks Challenge, the brainchild of Whitney A La Mode and Carrie of A Lovely Little Wardrobe. [I'm trying to do the challenge with my socks, but it is getting more and more difficult. Today's prompt is "Spring Dresses". How on earth can a sock be a spring dress?]

Anyway, on the the kooky outfits:
Monday. "Pattern on Bottom"
Pattern everywhere except for my tights.
Tuesday. "Pastels"
Pattern or embellishment everywhere except the faux Keds
Wednesday. Off theme.
Pattern everywhere.
Especially liked the leopard under the striped tee.
Note Jean's neck cowl [gifted] worn as a bum cover/ hip warmer.
Thursday. "Floral"
The coworkers gave me many compliments on the recently rediscovered circle skirt.
There you have it, my week of Pattern Maxing.
Go on, give it a try! Baby steps welcome too -- try a stripe with floral.
I have a helpful pattern mixing post here.

[Enid] Explained

ENID/ CREATED/ LINKS/
Enid's new guest posts will commence tomorrow.
Who is this Enid character, anyway?

She gave a reveal on her last post, May 1, 2014:

According to my calculations, Enid was 18 when Ghost World was published in 1997.
That would make her 35 in 2014.
[Amazon link]
What sort of career did Enid grow into after she left on the bus?
[from Ghost World, p. 80]
I figured that she worked in publishing and had wound up being Miz Bag of Vogoff's dogsbody. In the beginning of 2014, she had caused a few deadline misses, so Miz Bag "punished" her by sending her out to report on my road trip circumnavigating the US.

This year, Enid has been banished to Vogoff's scarf closet*.
(Enid can never catch a break.)
Even I don't know what she'll get up to in there, starting tomorrow!

*[it looks a lot like Lenny's. Well, maybe not THAT insane]

Now I feel better about how my closets look.
Note human in foreground for scale.

[7/25/16 update -- NOT Lenny's, it's a scarf merchant in Marrakech. Discovered REAL source while repairing broken link]

Are You Ready for the Return of Enid?

CREATED/ GIFTED/
Enid's journal was left only half filled last year.
Leather-bound blank journal a gift from my brother (yay Randy!)
Ducks in Paisley scarf a gift from Connie
I'm doubling down and combining TWO April blogging events:
International Fake Journal Month
and
Blogging from A to Z

I've been brainstorming during #myshittycommute
(this particular session was for my upcoming show at TAG)
and am STILL not sure EXACTLY what Enid will post every day.
(IFJM "rules" stipulate creating the fake entries on the actual day. Enid is a bit of a wild card).

I'm lining up her inspiration and I promise it shall be alphabetically entertaining!
All I can say at this point is, it will have something to do with scarves.
A dance of the 26 veils, if you will.

Miz Bag has granted her approval

It's not too late to join in the madness!

ps: I had NO IDEA that this would be SCARF WEEK on 52 Pick-me-up when I wrote this post.
How fortuitous!

52 Pick-me-up: Match Your Scarf

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/
This prompt was so much fun last year, I'm doing it again.
First you find a scarf, then you match your outfit to it.

I chose this Indian silk square that I "borrowed" from my mom back in 69 or 70.
Scarf it up! Link and tell!

I'm linking with Patti's Visible Monday later today. No hiding behind scarves for me!
Also linking with Maricel's TARDIS Tuesday. Because blue.

52 Pick-me-up: Hat Trick

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ GIFTED
This week is all about hats. Judith, the Style Crone, hosts "Hat Attack" on the first of every month.
She asks us to "...display your hat, headwrap, headpiece, fascinator, hair flower, headband or other adornment for your head..." This time the linky parties shall align, despite the fact that Mercury is still in retrograde.

I'm featuring my collection of ribbon hats.
They are made in China, I think with leftovers from apparel manufacturers. I bought them all at the 99 Cent Depot in Culver City, for $1.99!
[Screen capture from my Tumblr]
Here's the first one that I bought:
The ribbon is printed with this: "get wrapped in the fabric of MIMCO...........for frolicking"
What does that mean?
I played "match the hat" with a tee and scarf:
And:
And:
And:
And:
This last look has further permutations yet to occur. When they happen, you'll be the first to know.

My personal ribbon hat stack:
That's a drawing by Cidney Hochman behind the hats, not that you can see it.
What's your hat trick? Link and tell!

A Dab of Yellow

PURCHASED/ LINKS/
Yellow -- some love it, some not so much.
If you want to join in on this week's 52 Pick-me-up Yellow challenge but will end up looking jaundiced if you wear it, how about trying an accessory or two? There's always GOLD, that qualifies!

I'm featuring a scarf and a necklace that I got at Carmen & Ginger's in Providence. It's a really cute shop in the Arcade downtown. If you're in Providence, check it out!
Why was I drawn to the yellow?
The scarf is a classic nylon burnout Florida souvenir square:
The necklace is just plain weird:
Nautical and yellow. Yup.
And how about a look at that painting that I match:
Santa Barbara Night, oil on canvas, 36.5 x 18", 1975
It's vintage Anne M Bray and part of my Mom's collection. (She has a lot of my work!)

One more day to add your Yellow to this gathering of lovelies:

52 Pick-me-up: Go Green

CREATED/ PURCHASED/ GIFTED/ PURLOINED/

It's almost St Patty's Paddy's Day, when everyone wears green. Let's be sheep and do it too. Baa!

Severo found this coat for me. It's too heavy to wear around town, but it's fun to pose on the back patio with it.
What's underneath:
Patucci made the necklace. It includes SUPERBALLS!
Labels of the vintage coat and scarf:
Did Leslie give me the scarf? Was it her mom's? Can't remember.

Don't risk getting pinched on St Patty's Day. Go green, then link and tell!

Making Things Better

PURCHASED/ GIFTED/ PURLOINED/ LINKS/

The past week, I've been thinking about how to make 52 Pick-me-up a less stressful situation for myself. Trying to sketch on Tuesday mornings before work is not easy. As Greetje of No Fear of Fashion so kindly commented, "...remember... YOU made this list of tasks. So YOU can now: delegate, turn down (as in "sorry, won't be able after all to do this") or postpone (plan further in time). All of them options to make your life breathable again."

I've been mulling it over and here's what I've decided going forward:
The prompt for the week will last for a whole week and end at 5:30am Pacific.
The cycle is Wednesday to Wednesday.
The next prompt will go live at Wednesday mornings, as always.
The sketch will appear sometime between Thursday and Sunday.

Not too much adjustment for all that want to play along. A less rigorous sketching schedule for me. Phew!

I've had a fun time matching my scarves this week. I dug into a box of them and found a wonderful gold + brown diamond weave piece that I only vaguely remembered. I wore it last week, even though it was terribly wrinkled.

This one was in the same box, also still wrinkled:
It's hand painted silk chiffon. I can't remember who gave it to me.

Here's what I put together:
The sweater was bugging me -- too tight. I took some scissors to center front:
Aaaaah! So much better!
I wore this on Friday to qi gong class and to a scanning marathon at Otis.

Here is why I scanned at Otis:
home on the left | Otis on the right
Factor in Photoshop crashing every 3rd scan at home and you have no contest. (My scanner is so old that it only works with my feeble laptop).
I scanned 37 drawings, and I hope to slowly and steadily get them colored up.
So a week that started out badly, ended up very nicely. I found a fun new App too!
So excited!!!! Selfie from 2011 "painted" in Waterlogue
How was your week?
