52 Pick-me-up: Mad for Plaid

CREATED/ PURCHASED/ GIFTED/
It's 52 Pick-me-up theme time again!
This week, I challenge you to combine as many plaids as you can in one outfit.
Go ahead, expose your inner crazy cat lady.
OK, I admit, this look is NOT doing me any favors.
But I have two plaids!
The dress clearly needs some reconstruction. Even at 7:30am, the waist had floated up too high. I'm short-waisted, but that looks ridiculous. There are also massive darts in the bodice and I no longer have any bust. I "cleverly" covered up that mess with the scarf -- turning myself into a strange Christmas present.
The black and white plaid is vintage synthetic, so the static cling was rampant. Oh yes, that was fun. Clearly I need to get myself a slip or two.
Lastly, despite all these layers, I was still cold at work.

A closeup of the fabrics (blurry for now, sorry, will replace later nevermind, it's fine):
On the bottom, the scarf is a windowpane plaid.
Not sure what type of plaid the dress has. I would guess a madras?
Anyone?
I will do another post about types of plaids (because sometimes you have to suffer my pedagogy) later in the week.

By the way -- the argyle on my legs is a plaid cousin.
This graphic will explain:

This might be my most discombobulated post ever. My apologies. [slowly got my act together]

Let's see your plaids, people!

52 Pick-me-up: 90s

PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ GIFTED/ LINKS/

This week, let's have a 90's party! I'm attending as Grunge.
Featuring a Gotcha corduroy shirt, thrifted in Austin(?)
Conoz wrap skirt, thrifted in Portland
Confession: it's still too hot here in LA to dress like this all day. For work, I changed into something else entirely.
That got me thinking... what did I wear during the summer in the 90s? I think it was mostly 50's sundresses.
Oh, and big baggy jeans:

Digital Catwalk -- National Tartan Day Edition: Heather

(an older post of hers, but she wore this yesterday)

National Tartan Day [4/6] is a US observance on April 6 each year. It commemorates the Scottish Declaration of Independence, from which the American Declaration of Independence was modeled on. It also recognizes achievements of Americans of Scottish descent. [source]

So go eat some oatmeal. Or haggis. And drink scotch. Then play a round of golf.

Mimic Monday -- Plaid and Floral Get Cozy

Two Birds do an Inspiration Monday meme.
Every week, they post a photo and you get a week to ponder how to interpret the look.

I'm always game for new ways to shop my closet, so...
our muse: Drew
Hmmmm
What have I got that's plaid and goes with a floral?
this would have worked perfectly
but
it involved sewing
good combo for some spring day
not warm enough for today
no, just no
but...
the plush plaid top has potential
this is OK
but again, the maxi skirt needs repairs
YES!
The final look!
Had to forgo the maxi element, kept the plaid/pattern mix.
That was fun!
Hop on over to Two Birds to see everyone's links!

Feeling Plaid Magic

This skirt resurfaced while I was digging through the repair pile.
It has waistband issues (bad elastic) and I wanted to turn it into a tent dress.
I made a start on Saturday.

First, I wore it as a skirt when I went to buy ribbon so I could match colors.
(twirling is serious business, dontcha know)
Then I did one of my safety pin "sewing" jobs to position the grosgrain ribbon straps.
No, I did not yet sew it. I wore it like that to a Group Show at my gallery.
I topped it all with my leopard swing coat.
(no twirls, so sorry)
Here I am at the gallery, coordinating with a painting by Ellen Starr.
It's a still life of her husband's magic gear. I felt magic standing adjacent.

Go see what Patti's Visible Monday gang are up to -- I'll be there.

Preppy Badass - 70s Flashback

[2.5.19] Anyone remember Polyvore? It's broken.
I've looked, but I don't think this image existed anywhere else.
Sigh.

Another tribute to Erskine and the merry band of pranksters.
With a little help from my friends. You know who you are.
