Sock It To Me!

(Ad) Six days with @sox_bond socks.
Sox Bond offered me a generous discount code for my purchase if I posted on IG.
I did that and am posting here as well! They're nice socks! I like them!

Here's the intel [copied from their website]:

Sock Details

  • Made to impress
  • Soft, stretchy, comfortable
  • One size fits all
  • 80% Cotton, 15% Polyester, 5% Spandex
  • Delivery

    • We ship worldwide
  • European Union shipping (free on orders over $35, otherwise $6.95 shipping)
  • US and Canada (free on orders over $35, otherwise $6.95 shipping)
  • INT shipping (free on orders over $35, otherwise $6.95 shipping)
  • All orders are shipped straight from our warehouse (Lithuania - European Union). We use post office for service
  • It usually takes 5-14 days for your products to arrive (depends on your location)

They ARE soft and skew warm, due to the polyester. Good for winter!
Most were too long in the foot for my size 7-7.5 foot (which is always my problem with unisex socks). Not sure about shrinkage yet.

Here's how I wore them, over the last two weeks:

#100daysofsole and Me

I've been featured!
100 Days of Sole is a project comprising of "daily stories told from the intersection of footwear and identity". I was all set to include the site in a post about "my latest Instagram crushes" or "my many obsessions distractions" or some such. And, while I was busy at a handwork workshop, it transpired that Kelsy contacted me to be a part of it! WooHoo!

After great deliberation, I decided upon the above hand painted Indian Buffalo Sandals, which I photographed on my block printing experiments and collaged over the paisley block printed on striped cotton lawn. To read my story, you'll have to go to Instagram!

Then it was time to conjure up an outfit for this post.
On a whim, I tried on a pair of golden baroque lounge pants from work.
(I was involved with working on this print, but not this version of it).
I had them in one of my "to repurpose" boxes. How many months have I been walking past them?
They're work's sample size small, and I assumed that they wouldn't fit.
Well, as long as my stomach and butt are covered, they are fine!
I can't wait to wear these to a summer pool party.
Oh yeah, I attend those all the time!
I tried hiking up the pants to show the sandals without much success.
You can see how the layers of the sole are starting to separate.
Close up, highlighting Patucci's painting.
How did I discover 100 Days of Sole?
Through Richard Haines, the fashion illustrator who inspired me to take up fashion sketching again!
The Instagram algorithm gods smiled on me yesterday.

#MBsociallydriven: Exploring My Los Angeles, Part 1

SPONSORED, UNPAID

I’m partnering with Mercedes-Benz to share my version of Los Angeles.
I used a special MB provided App to create this slide show culled from my Instagram feed.

THAT went fast, right?
Hey, kids, slow it down for us OLD PEOPLE!!!!!

Here are the individual photos, which you can linger over at your leisure:
The obligatory cliche Venice Beach shot.
Chasing a giant spool on the I-105 for my #dailytruck project.
Pay no attention to my hazardous driving skillz.
The App didn't "recognize" any of my Waterlogue images, so I gamed my IG and added a source image.
Dave and Phil Alvin sketched at the Ruth B Shannon in Whittier.
I got their autographs on the sketch after the show!
This image may disallow my entry, are the Alvin brothers "celebrities"? Is a sketch of celebrities OK?
Shoot, I was thinking of doing a "My Oscars" one today...
Food. Had to include a food shot.
These Kranse Cakes are awesome and I want one NOW!
Copenhagen Pastry, Culver City. Read a detailed review on my Dessert blog.
The Mobile Studio in the back seat of my car.
I haven't been #lunchbreakfashionsketching all that much lately. I'm needing a rest period.
Wow, these photos are like a tour of my various blogs!
That's My Instagram for you, EVERYTHING in one place.

[Nerd alert]
My Inspector SpyGirl study of what the App liked on my IG.
Did not like the new multi-image album nor the Waterlogues, among other things. Why didn't it like "BOOM!"? So sad! It liked Severo a lot, that's for sure. And my #COTDstyle shots. And all the "Good morning"s.
[I made screenshots of my IG feed. The App goes back only one month. It also loads the images in reverse chronological order. Unable to rearrange images for the slideshow].
You're welcome to click on image to see bigger.
Orange √ = top App picks
Red √ = all other picks
There is some overlap at the top from gaming IG after I first tried the App.
So, what's YOUR version of [insert city name]?
If you live in or plan on visiting NYC, LA, Chicago, Austin, Miami, or Denver, Mercedes-Benz is inviting you to share your city in a simple and artistic way on Instagram. It's easy—you create a quick (but beautiful) animated album of 5 of your best geotagged photos and upload it to Instagram. [Once I get the green light, I'll add the link to the App. You have to connect through your smart device]. Then, you share your album on your feed with the hashtag #MBsociallydriven—and your photos might be featured on the Mercedes-Benz website! Get busy, the deadline is March 5.
MB suggests these guidelines:
Because this is a Mercedes-Benz brand initiative, please avoid posting the following types of photos (as much as we love them): competing car brands, celebrities, outdoor murals and graffiti, images that primarily focus on tattoos, advertising, and profanity.

[Nerd Alert part 2]
Check out the City Colorways on the MB site --
ALL THE NYC VIDEO COVERS ARE BLACK AND WHITE! And Miami is all blue! SO WEIRD!
Also, it looks like every city got its own font. Pattern Recognition, people. Pattern Recognition.

Ready to rediscover your city?

If you DON'T live in one of those 6 cities, share your local 5-image slideshow here!
If you can think of an existing App to make the slideshow, please mention it in the comments.
HAVE FUN! LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR EFFORTS!

Colors of the Day Style Challenge #COTDstyle

This week, I discovered a fun Instagram Challenge hosted by @COTDstyle:

Every weekday, Mercedes posts two colors or a color and a pattern for outfit inspiration.

Tuesday was yellow and purple:

I wore purple and green:

One of my favorite aspects of the challenge is finding my lunchtime muse to sketch
(I got tired of sketching myself).

On Tuesday, I sketched @wookie_the_wonder_dog
And on Thursday I went to the art supply store and got some colors that I was lacking, including a decent Royal Purple!

Tech Rant -- Instaspam

Today's rant is over the sudden proliferation of spam comments on Instagram.
They look like this:
Two of my images are currently being targeted.

Being the Instacop that I am, I investigate the perps:
Looks like the above isn't doing so well on the "hundreds [of] followers & likes".

My first action is blocking the account:

Next I go to the image with the comments and report each one as spam.

Here's how:
Click down on the comment and slide left, you will then see this:
The grey   ! octagon   is the reporting button.
Tapping on it will give you some options:
You can be a good Instacop on your friends' images as well.
Left swiping will give you the Report option (but not the Trash).
Let's clean up Instagram and eliminate the Instaspam!

Tech: Instagram ALL WRONG

What has IGers' knickers all in a knot?
Algorithm-based feeds, that's what!
Instagram announced the change on their blog last week.

Me, I want to see my IG friends' posts chronological, not how Instagram (owned by Facebook) "thinks" I should see them.
Nope. Not updating.
Some recent reviews:

Since it's doubtful that the petition will stop the march of change, here's an alternate mind-set to consider from

2/4 is #WorldCancerDay

[source]
Today is World Cancer Day and I am here to dispel Myth 3: "Cancer is a death sentence."
You see, 6/2/2010 I was diagnosed with Stage IIIc breast cancer with a tumor bigger than a walnut.
It is now gone and I AM VERY MUCH ALIVE!
So promising are all the gene-based protocols being developed.
My tumor was HER2+
Herceptin lowered my recurrence odds from 90% to 20%.

I found out about the World Cancer Day initiative through Fat Mum Slim's 365 project.
Chantelle is now designating one day a month to bringing awareness to a cause.
The prompt for today's photo is HOPE.

Here is my pictorial hope:
"Get those mammograms ladies!"
Please join in, whether you
• photograph your take on "hope" (use #fmsphotoaday),
• bust a cancer myth on twitter (use #worldcancerday),
• offer support to a victim or caregiver (there are many many ways beyond monetary),
or
• take a private moment to think of a loved one who has been affected by cancer
(I'm sure you know someone, if not yourself).

As Michael Sieverts, my Qi Gong teacher says during our practice:
"Cancer be gone. You are not wanted here."

Read more about my cancer battle on Caring Bridge.

IG Photo a Day May

Here's a photo-a-day project hosted by Katy of Modly Chic:
Instagram photos, themed for fashion and beauty. You can see the topics below and you can participate as much or as little as you want. Have some fun!
Here’s how it works. Find the theme for the day… So, if it is May 9th you need to photograph something that is green. From there, post the photo to Instagram and tag it with the #FBPhotoADayMay hashtag. Publish and with that you are done.

My Insane Week, In Instagrams

I am still recovering from a very intense week of activities and deadlines:
1) Art show mounting, opening and reception
2) Sketchbook due for ArtHouse
3) Lucky FABB Conference
Any one of the above is major. All three simultaneously? YIKES!

Here is an overview from my Tumblr archives (a great way to get a quick read on one's life-in-instagram, btw, if you happen have a Tumblr and tick "on" to the Tumblr option in Instagram [IG] and don't do much else on Tumblr... and... did I lose you there?)
Some pix are out of order, some loaded in may... ah, internet!
Sunday, April 22:
To Do list, Sunday morning
Hanging art show
Monday ~ Wednesday: money job
Mr Lou sums it up
Thursday: worked all day on portraits of fashion bloggers for Threads and Surfaces sketchbook
Linework in Illustrator for Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely
In the evening, I let myself out for fresh air and watched a beautiful sunset.
Friday: portraits, break, portraits, sewing
At 8am, I removed 7 pages from the book
because I knew there was no way I could get them finished in time.
That's Kiah's [of From the "REZ" To the "CITY"] page, pre bling.
At the bottom, you can see my chart of steps, I kept on track with it.
9:30am Qi Gong break in Clover Park to fortify myself for the day
Another ArtHouse project came in, I ignored it
(and missed the deadline)
Very apt quote, however!
Diya's [of In Her Stilettos] pages printed, pre bling
I took a break from the computer and sewed my outfit for the reception.
I worked under a stern taskmaster.
Saturday: prep for reception, errands, teaching, reception, collapse
Meyer lemons and mint from the garden for the reception spa water
Picked up my MOO business cards at the PO en route to class
(yes, had to teach, along with everything else)
Here's a snap of my blog post about my reception look.
No instagrams from reception (distracted)
Sunday: work on sketchbook, blogger brunch, shopping, portraits, party, portraits
Decided I wanted a metallic cover on the book.
I'd found some silver spray paint in Severo's stash...
did NOT find a flat head screwdriver to remove the cap.
It took a lot longer than expected to get to this point where paint emerged
At noon, there was a Lucky FABB kick-off brunch
(again distracted/ no coverage = no IGs)
When I was walking back to my car,
I thought the above was a cute purple maxi dress hung out for a yard sale...
that's when I realized my blogger immersion was complete - it's ice plant!
There was a FABB shopping safari on Abbot Kinney, which I opted out of...
I DID go over there, however...
I'd gotten the brilliant notion my Monday conference outfit needed silver clogs to complete the look.
But Zingara's silver clogs were "try on for size for ordering" only. Nooooo!
In the end, I worked my self into an acquisitional frenzy and got these floral sandals
Rocquelle's pages finished at 4pm
List with more checkmarks -- progress!
By 5pm, I'd finished the flat coloring for La Dama [of Vintage Passiones Like Mine]
Yes, I was allowed to go to the FABB cocktail party on Melrose
Shot an IG at the party, used the hashtag, and my shot showed up in the LuckyMag.com feed!
Then home and back to work...
Monday: portraits, PO, conference, collapse
La Dama's pages done by 1am
Erin's [of Design for Mankind] pages done by 2am!!!!
SKETCHBOOK DONE!
Here's the sketchbook joining the mail stream at the PO @ 7:30 am
Deadline met!
On the the conference!
My bracelets, badge, and card holder thing
Bloggers!
I'd sketch, then shoot IGs of the sketches
This one is of Zac Posen and Brandon Holley
For lasting all the way to the end of this post,
I present you with a beautiful cake!
This was in the LeSportsac booth
It was created by Vanilla Bake Shop in Santa Monica
