Fashion Rainbow at TAG Gallery and Society6

You saw the 52 blogger portraits in my back yard.
Here they are hanging in the gallery!
(Sorry, not the best of photos)
Here's my compilation file of everyone:

See the rainbow?
I want to thank all my muses for your inspiring and colorful outfits!

Not only are the 52 bloggers hung at the gallery, the image above is available on all sorts of items at Society6.
Here's a new product that they print on, an 8 x 6" notebook:
Yes, I will get a small commission from Society6 if you purchase my stuff.
I'm quite pleased with the mug:
Cheers!

We could all use a little kindness right now, yes?

Fashion Rainbow Update

Today I had a burst of energy and got some organizing done for my upcoming show.

Here are the 52 Over-40 sketches, shot laid out in the back yard:
They are 6x4" and coated with 3/4" of acrylic.

I'm also half-way through the "wall label" which will have QR codes to everyones blogs.
QR codes are similar to bar codes, yet better -- they link to a URL. With a QR Reader app on your smart device, when you hold your device up to a code, it will jump to a blog. (If you're reading this on a computer, try it!)
When I get it finished, I'll make a downloadable pdf of it.

Be sure to let me know if you're coming to the 40+ Meetup, especially the Friday December 2 event at the gallery.

Todd Oldham Jean Jacket

What happens when you see the origins of your favorite patterned jean jacket?
You go a little bit insane, that's what.

The Todd Oldham All Is Everything exhibition at the RISD Museum had examples of all the components:
Todd Oldham, Pantone Dress, Spring 1996 | Todd Oldham, Pantone Print, Collage, 1996
Detail of Pantone chip collage
The jacket is a double printed denim, with the Pantone print on the outside, and a tufted upholstery print on the inside:
The original "Tuft" garments were in the exhibition as well:

And that's not all!
Back at Patucci and Mark's place, a similar vintage wallpaper was in a panel of the armoire next to my bed!
Pattern heaven, my friends, pattern heaven.

It's Reigning Men at LACMA

There's a great exhibition of men's fashion, Reigning Men, currently at LACMA through 8/21/16.
It's displayed in several rooms and is organized thematically rather than chronologically.
The accompanying book is good as well. The photographs are straightforward, and the book gives full information on every piece displayed (much better than the book from the Met's China show last year).

Following are glimpses of the various sections.

Revolution/Evolution
Walter Van Beirendonck, FW 2000-01,  Ensemble from 1790s
Zoot Suit 1940-42
Langlitz Leathers 1951, Johnson Hartig for Libertine FW 2009-10

East/West

Tronbi 1925-35
Rudi Gernreich 1970, Banyan Robe 1720s, Banyan 1880s

Uniformity

Ralph Lauren 1979, Vivienne Westwood FW 1992-93
Detail of Thom Browne FW 2014-15
Jeremy Scott with Adidas FW 2013-14

Body Consciousness

Kean Etro for Etro FW 2014-15

The Splendid Man

Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein SS 2009, Johnson Hartig for Libertine SS 2014, Sapeur Suit 2005

Detail of Coat and Waistcoat c1800
I've loaded more of my photos onto Flickr and they can be found in the Reigning Men album.

China: Through the Looking Glass at The Met,
Part 7 -- Wuxia

"For many Western designers, some of the most compelling fantasies of China are in wuxia, a literary genre that is more than two thousand years old. Wuxia, which roughly translates as 'martial hero,' relates the adventures of wandering swordsmen whose martial-arts skills are so highly developed that they can internalize their qi (life force) and unleash such superhuman powers as 'thunder palms,' 'shout weapons,' and 'weightless leaps.'"  -- from The Met's website
[no information on any of these, not in catalogue]
Can you sense my frustration? Usually, if allowed, I will take photos of the information when I take a photo of an art piece. This time I didn't -- I knew I was going to purchase the catalogue. I was hoping that EVERYTHING in the exhibition would be at least listed, if not photographed. Oh well. Perhaps I'll have the energy to track down the details at a later date.

On The Met's Pinterest board for China:Through the Looking Glass I found this nicely edited video about the exhibition.
It gives a good sense of the experience.
