Party Time!

I wore this outfit yesterday to help Larry celebrate his 65th birthday:
The vintage Todd Oldham jean jacket got many complements.
Read more about it here.
I got it eons ago at NYC's Canal Jeans (RIP).

I dressed from the shoes up:
These new-to-me Sanita Clogs came this way with multi-colored paint splotches, MAYBE on cork, or a cork-like texture. I snagged them on Poshmark at a steal of a price: $20 and they're hardly used!
From a quick look on Amazon (a slippery slope), new Sanitas go for $75-$140. Really. If you are a clog fanatic like me, Poshmark is a great place to find them. You can connect to my Poshmark closet over on the sidebar >>>>>>>>>>>>

Speaking of that Amazon search, I found trouble:
Trouble not available in my size. Perhaps a blessing.
We celebrated Larry at the BBQ chain Lucille's. I had Blackened Catfish, with sides of Mac and Cheese and BBQ Beans. Mostly, I ate the Mac and Cheese, which never does well as takeaway. One of the other guys had the largest serving of Gumbo I'd ever seen. The "bowl" was about 18" diameter and had a pint "mesa" of rice in the center!. It was Jumbo Gumbo!
It was great to meet up with Larry and friends, we "talked "of many things... of cabbages -- and kings...".

Clogged, In a Good Way

I went to a clog close-out sale today, at the Santa Monica Airport Flea.
Here is how most of my collection (I left out a few exotics) looked at dawn:
I took this for reference in case I needed to remember what I already owned.
It was bright yet chilly, so I piled on accessories
Mismatched hat with mock braids. It's warm.
I wore extra thick socks -- to avoid buying "Torture Clogs".
Once at the flea, I made a beeline to Zingara, who was having a fabulous sale --
Sven wooden soled clogs at $49/pair vs $100+
Aren't those saddle shoe baby clogs adorable? Want!
Zingara used to have a shop on Abbot Kinney, before it became an overpriced, overhyped international shopping destination.
I did a post about the shop (and Abbot Kinney) here.
Phase two she moved to a "container shop" in the West Adams district. (I never got there).
Now, for Phase three, she's going in a new (undisclosed) direction, without her inventory.

I bought two pairs.
Bronze backless . Brown backless 2-tone suede.
Not to worry, I DID buy pairs!
The mismatched socks came that way -- I bought them at a cute country store in Vermont.
My collection grows!

Shine and Sparkle at the Santa Monica Flea

The Santa Monica Airport Antique & Collectible Market is a feast for the eyes (and a drain on the wallet). It's within walking distance of my abode, which is DANGEROUS.

I already posted these photos on IG, but not all of you go there.
Enjoy!

First the shiny stuff:
This and the next are rugs. Um, yeah.
How would one clean this?
Another rug, more practical
Other cool things
The perfect umbrellas for the Year of the Dog
HULA PIE!!!!!!
Oh Ken with your laser eyes and man bag.
Red, white, and blue
Rim reflections and red Danskos
I bought two items, I'll show you the Ajrakh textile from Gujarat (Vix has been there!)
Here I am wrapped in it on my way home:

click image to embiggen, I didn't reduce this photo
It smells just like the Indian textiles of my youth!

Almost All Black and White

This is what I didn't wear on Saturday:
Here are the bracelets that I photographed and also didn't wear:
Technically, the studded item is an old belt from the 80s that no longer fits around my waist.
This part DID make it beyond the patio to Otis for my Digital Design class then to Whittier to see Dave and Phil Alvin:
Starring the new-to-me zebra clogs! I love them! They are so VISIBLE!
The meeting of the dot socks and the checkered leggings was a bit unresolved. Which to layer on top?
In this photo, that I took during break at Otis, it looks like I popped my ankle and it became swollen:
No injury, just extra fabric in a wad.
About the wardrobe change: all the black and white elements remained on my person. I realized the Todd Oldham mosaic jacket wouldn't keep me warm enough after sundown, so I donned something warmer. Then, just as I was getting in the car for school, while removing my heavier jacket, I realized that there was a large highly visible expanse of my torso that I wasn't feeling like sharing with my students. Back inside I went, finding the perfect torso camo: the Duro Olowu top that Jan gave me four years ago. Ahhhh. Outfit zen achieved.
Today's reenactment of outfit:
Umbrella and goofy hat added for current weather conditions.

52 Pick-me-up: White / Instinct

•••

GASP!
White shoes before Memorial Day! Issue me a Fashion Citation!
I call them my stompin' clompin' clogs. They combine flavors of Western, Moto, and I think a whisper of Dutch. Made by Fiorina, obtained in Hong Kong in 2004, I only recently discovered that they stay on my feet if I wear them without socks (much to the chagrin of my co-workers. These babies CLOMP).

Lets move slowly up the outfit, shall we?
My "skirt" and my leg.
Double houndstooth. Score!
The skirt is a tube of horrible 60's nylon jacquard. It's sticky and VERY synthetic feeling. I will not allow it to touch my skin. It plays nicely with my $2.99 polyester leggings obtained last summer at Jack's in NYC.
I'm a walking symphony syntheticony.

The big picture:
Yes, I'm holding up my stomach. Ho ho ho!
No, I'm not pregnant. I'm way beyond that possibility.
I'm linking this up with Patti's Visible Monday.
Die Laughing was a store in Pasadena, from the time before Pasadena had Old Towne.
This tee saw the light of day strictly for this post. I then changed into a black tee with a message about crying. You'll have to wait until the next edition of VOGOFF to see that.
Unless you saw my #selfiesketch on various social media, that is. No, I'm not going to help you find it.
Use your Instinct!
Bwahahahaha.

A Walk in the Woods

CREATED/ PURCHASED/ PURLOINED/ GIFTED/ PRESS SAMPLE*/
I'm still at my mom's.
It's still gloomy weather.
I'm still wearing the quilted corduroy shirt:
*pink puffed necklace courtesy of Capwell & Co
If I took it off (brrrr) I'd blend right into these woods along my aunt's driveway.
That is, if I lay down like a mossy log:
baby trees!
My scarf has a secret...
ducks in the paisley!
Isn't it a hoot? quack?
Connie, of Snow in the Air, gave it to me when we met up on my first day of the road trip.
She gave me a bag with lots of goodies, the most important being a bottle of water.
Yes, I started a road trip INTO THE DESERT forgetting to pack water.
Doh! Connie came to the rescue! Thanks Connie!

Um, no lack of water here. It has rained for a week. Enough already. I've got ramps to collect.
Captured during the one hour of sun we were allotted on Saturday

Foot Fetish [Almost] Friday -- The Art Clogs

CREATED/ LINKS/ PURCHASED
Citizen Rosebud is hosting a Shoe Shine party and I must join in... it's Thursday in California, but it's Friday somewhere, right? She's asking us to share the shoes that make us Summer Stars and this week my studio clogs are in the limelight.
I took photos of them during my week at art camp, as they became encrusted with paint:
What did I paint? Bella in the pines as Citizen Zombie! She may eventually get more lively looking, but I've got to wait for the paint to dry... and you will have to wait for an image (unless you check my Instagram feed).

I also did Melanie in a reverse painting technique:
Oh! The fun I've been having at art camp!

Foot Fetish Friday: Metal Cap Clogs

4.22.10
2nd day of waiting @ Harbor General

Clogs with metal cap toes
-------
O' My Sole
Marina Del Rey
2001?
-------
Love the metal caps on these. My wooden clogs tend to get all split at the toe + these are protected. Also good for kicking dolts that step on me in clubs.

***********

I think these are now studio shoes -- they're pretty beat up.
Too bad, I really like the metal caps...
It wasn't until I took this photo that I noticed that the wheels on my studio shelves are blue! [upper right] The blue pencil was on the floor already, but I rearranged it for a better composition. The socks are new Happy Socks and won't be worn when I'm painting. I have strict segregation of my studio clothing -- I can't stand getting my good clothes paint spattered.

Foot Fetish Friday: Sanita Clog

4.21.10 while waiting @ Harbor General Hospital

Sanita Patent Mary Jane Clog

Lord John's Bootery

--------
Emergency purchase because all I took to NY was a pair of rubber boots that gave me horrible blisters. Store right around the corner from hotel.

********

The strap on the right shoe broke while I was at work. Sad day. I MacGyvered it with a ribbon. I'm hoping a good shoe repair guy can rehab them.

In better days:
with some Crazy Cat Lady socks
Now:
This year two pairs of favorite footwear have broken. I am not pleased with this trend.

V-Day Shenanigans

PRESS SAMPLE/ PURCHASED/ GIFTED/
Remember how I was kvetching about not getting comments on my outfits at work?
It took this! I snagged THREE!
Some thought it was for Chinese New Year.
Some guessed correctly that it was for Valentine's.
I wore this on Wednesday (2/13) because I don't go into the office on Thursday,so the confusion is understandable.
The Lucky tee is very old and getting faded.
I got the Chinese jacket in San Francisco's Chinatown.
I have not seen this style jacket in either LA or Hong Kong (circa 2004). Believe me, I have looked!
Here I am, sitting in my car at lunch.
Like my smiley blankie in the background? That's my sun shade.
Oh yes, FCC guidelines require that I say my sunglasses frames are c/o DITTO.
The prescription certainly wasn't c/o -- it cost me $650!!!
A close up that I Instagrammed. The necklace was made from a Slinky!
I got it at the Santa Monica Art Museum gift shop - they no longer carry them.
It didn't last on my neck all day. It started to drive me crazy.
The skirt was a dress in the morning. I hacked off the top as I put my ensemble together.
So much better as a skirt.
WOW! You get a close-up of the "torture" clogs and the pom pom socks.
The clogs I bought in a shopper's frenzy to wear to the Lucky FABB West last April.
They are too tight. This is the second time that I've worn them.
I deliberately sat at my desk all day and didn't fetch any color printouts.
Vickie gave me the socks from her church resale shop in Providence, RI.
I think they go great with the clogs. I was hoping they'd help stretch them out.
How about that? Head to toe info! I was a proper Fashun Blogger today!
All I'm missing are RED LIPS!

Don't miss the action over on Patti's Visible Monday!
How much red and/or pink will we see this week?

Speaking of Patti, she had a contest and I was the winner!
OMG!
I let you know what I think of it after I try it out.
