In the Pink with the Pink Shawl

It's halfway through the month (what?!) and time for an episode of Shelbee and Nancy's Good Buy/Good Bye Book. The theme this month is Barbiecore™ and/or Pink. I submitted a sweater that was a Bad Buy and you can see that here.

Today, I'm celebrating a pink shawl that I bought in Brooklyn 10(!) years ago:

In the Pink

[Edit] I found my original post about it on IG:

I wore it EIGHT times from January - March 2012!

Getting My Barbiecore™ On

Have you heard of the Barbiecore™ trend?

Well...

Did you know that I was a Barbie Doll designer back in the day?

It's true!
Back then, I didn't wear much pink.

Roxanne and I attended the opening of a Barbie x Mark Ryden collabaration and we went in Pink (as one does).
We stood in line for TWO HOURS!

Crazy!

Once (finally) inside, we saw all the wonderful creations:
"Visible Barbie" concept sketch, not produced

"Nature Queen"

I am obsessed with "Bee Barbie" [BarBee haha]
Note that Ken is a snail in the background graphic

As well as the Barbie Bee Brooch, which I'm going to get.
Mattel made a one-off Mark Ryden doll!

Some super fans:

They are examining the ginormous life size Nature Queen
I think I'll go back one more time, at night when I can take better photos, and won't have to wait on line.

For December’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, Shelbee and Nancy are featuring Hot Pink (or Barbiecore).
Send them your Pinkest best! See the bottom of Shelbee's post for instructions.

Mosaics in Philadelphia

Mosaics in the South Street neighborhood of Philadelphia.
Created by Isaiah Zagar
View of the exterior of the museum, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens,
dedicated to one immersive space that he created.

We took a quickie east coast ramble at the end of October and Philadelphia was one of our stops.

"Behind the Wall of Sleep" and Songful Style Linkup

Songful Style, a fun way to explore your closet, inspired by music.

My choice for June was "Behind the Wall of Sleep" by The Smithereens.
Due to a surgery that I'm still recovering from, Severo is standing in for me, "dressed as black as coal":

 Action!

July's song is When Doves Cry, by Prince.

This is a monthly link-up every last Monday of the month.
We will announce our song choice for the following month at the end of each Songful Style post.

It's my month to choose our inspiration and June's song is
Behind the Wall of Sleep by Pat DiNizio and The Smithereens.

Do you know why? Here's a hint:
That's my boyfriend Severo on bass!

The lyrics:

She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton back in 1965
She had legs that never ended
I was halfway paralyzed
She was tall and cool and pretty and she dressed as black as coal
If she asked me to I'd murder, I would gladly lose my soul

Now I lie in bed and think of her
Sometimes I even weep
Then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep

Well she held a bass guitar and she was playing in a band
And she stood just like Bill Wyman
Now I am her biggest fan
Now I know I'm one of many who would like to be your friend
And I've got to find a way to to let you know I'm not like them

Now I lie in bed and think of her
Sometimes I even weep
Then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep

Now I lie in bed and think of her
Sometimes I even weep
Then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep

Got your number form a friend of mine who lives in your home town
Called you up to have a drink
Your roommate said you weren't around
Now I know I'm one of many who would like to be your friend
And I've just got to find a way to to let you know I'm not like them

Now I lie in bed and think of her
Sometimes I even weep
Then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep
Behind the wall of sleep
Behind the wall of sleep
Behind the wall of sleep
[I like to change the gender to masculine when I see Severo playing this]

There is a good backstory to this, and Pat told the tale.
He saw The Bristols at a gig and on the way home, he wrote this song.
His muse was Kim Ernst:

Surprise!

Lyrics

You say, "Yes", I say, "No"
You say, "Stop" and I say, "Go, go, go"
Oh no
You say, "Goodbye" and I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello"
I say, "High", you say, "Low"
You say, "Why?" And I say, "I don't know"
Oh no
You say, "Goodbye" and I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello"
Why, why, why, why, why, why, do you
Say, "Goodbye, goodbye, bye, bye"?
Oh no
You say, "Goodbye" and I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello"
You say, "Yes", I say, "No" (I say, "Yes", but I may mean, "No")
You say, "Stop", I say, "Go, go, go" (I can stay still it's time to go)
Oh, oh no
You say, "Goodbye" and I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello, hello, hello"
I don't know why you say, "Goodbye", I say, "Hello-wow, oh, hello"
Hela, heba, helloa, hela heba, helloa, hela, heba, helloa
Hela, heba, helloa, (hela) hela, heba, helloa, hela, heba, helloa
Hela, heba, helloa, hela, heba, helloa, hela, heba, helloa...

Crazy Legs and Torture Clogs

It started with a call from Shelbee and Nancy for their Good Buy/Goodbye Book with the theme Easter Egg Colors (link).

This is the photo that I submitted, from 2013

original post
Here's what I wrote:

This outfit is a 50/50 split.

The bright 60's shirt and shift are definite keepers. And Great Buys -- the shirt was free, from a friend, and the shift was secondhand for $25.

The pastel tights were a disappointment (in 2013). This is my own artwork, and I used a company that required a printing of 6 pairs. They came out WAY too pastel for me. I managed to resell 4 pairs, and the remaining two I will upcycle into "yarn".

The Mary Jane clogs were a super bad buy (in 2012). I call them torture clogs, they are too small and make my feet numb after about an hour. Why do we do this to ourselves?
The clogs are now for sale on Poshmark:
buy them here [US only, must be Poshmark member]
And the tights?
Let the repurposing begin!

I'm cutting on the length grain.
Cross cutting would give me a longer strand, but it curls with the (paler) inside on the outside.

What will I do with the yarn? TBD!

April Songful Style Outfit Inspo Collab: Hi-Heel Sneakers

What is Songful Style?
A fun way to explore your closet, inspired by music.

Songful Style gives you lyrics, music, video, and album artwork to inspire your fashion creativity. You may even find inspiration in a memory triggered by the selected song. It is all open to your own personal interpretation and just a fun way to discover new music and get a little bit more creative with your wardrobe. Brought to you by Suzy - the Grey Brunette, Shelbee On the Edge , Michelle - My Bijou Life, Marsha In the Middle, and me

Michele's choice this month is "Hi-Heel Sneakers" (often also spelled "High Heel Sneakers") a blues song written and recorded by Tommy Tucker in 1963.

Tommy Tucker:

Many other artists have covered it, here is a compilation of albums created by Elvis Songpedia
their links go to Amazon, not YouTube, unfortunately

I was trying to find the cover version that I knew, without success. Not sure if I have the stamina to scour my record collection... What I could hear from my memory bank did not sync with what I found on YouTube. Here are some highlights from my YouTube search:

Stones:

Elvis:

The lyrics:

Put on your red dress, baby
Ya know we're goin' out tonight
Put on your red dress, baby
Lord, we're goin' out tonight
And-a bring along some boxin' gloves
In case some fool might wanna fight
Put on your high-heel sneakers, Lordy
Wear your wig-hat on your head
Put on your hi-heel sneakers, child
Wear your wig-hat on your head
Ya know you're looking mighty fine, baby
I'm pretty sure you're gonna knock 'em dead
Put on your red dress, baby
Lord, we're goin' out tonight
Put on your red dress, baby
Well, we're goin' out tonight
And bring along some boxin' gloves
'Case some fool might wanna fight
Put on your hi-heel sneakers, child
Wear your wig-hat on your head now
Put on your hi-heel sneakers, baby
Wear your wig-hat on your head
Ya know you're looking mighty good, really
I'm pretty sure you're gonna knock 'em dead
